Selfdrive-Rallye in Carinthia<\/mark><\/strong> – In the past, I regularly spent time in Carinthia<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, as I had the privilege for many years to support the wonderful Monti L\u00fcftner <\/mark><\/strong>in organizing his legendary \u201cMonti Cup\u201d<\/mark><\/strong> \u2013 a combined tennis and golf tournament at Hotel Schloss Seefels<\/a><\/mark><\/strong> on Lake Woerthersee<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, which brought together numerous celebrities. Since Monti, whom I miss dearly, is no longer with us, I haven\u2019t been back. That\u2019s why I was all the more delighted to recently have the chance to rediscover this beautiful Austrian<\/mark><\/strong> region during an amazing \u201cSelfdrive-Rally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a comfortable train journey, the official program kicked off with a relaxed Slow Food lunch and welcome drink at St. Georgen Abbey<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. We then continued with an introductory golf session<\/mark><\/strong> at the Jacques Lemans Golf Club<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. The day concluded with an aperitif and breathtaking views, followed by a seated dinner at Taggenbrunn Castle<\/a><\/mark><\/strong> \u2013 where we also spent the night, overlooking vineyards. The castle can be reached by an elevator and a glass bridge, and for the way down there\u2019s even a long slide!<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The next morning started with a tour of the Jufa Gurk Hotel<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. Lunch was served at the Benedictine Market<\/mark> <\/a><\/strong>in the heart of Klagenfurt<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. Afterwards, we visited the Drohneberger event location<\/mark><\/strong> and enjoyed a guided tour through the Schleppe Brewery<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, topped off with dinner on the terrace at the Felsenkeller<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. Overnight stay was at the Garner Hotel Moser Verdino<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Following breakfast the next day, we inspected the modern Seepark W\u00f6rthersee Resort<\/a><\/mark><\/strong> in Klagenfurt<\/mark><\/strong> and took a refreshing round of stand-up paddling<\/mark><\/strong> on the beautiful Lake Woerthersee<\/mark><\/strong> \u2013 a place I had truly missed over the years. We recharged with lunch at the stylish Lagana Restaurant<\/a><\/mark><\/strong> in Villach<\/mark><\/strong> before heading off with plenty of horsepower to the mountains: via the Villach Alpine Road<\/mark><\/strong> to the Rostratte<\/mark><\/strong>, where Ranger Paul<\/mark><\/strong> shared fascinating insights about the local flora and fauna (including some survival tips!). The day ended perfectly with a traditional hut evening featuring Carinthian specialties at the Aichinger H\u00fctte<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, before staying overnight at the voco Villach by IHG<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


On the final morning, after breakfast, we took to the Drau River<\/mark><\/strong> in canoes<\/mark><\/strong> \u2013 a fantastic team-building activity<\/mark><\/strong>. Afterwards, the train journey home gave us the chance to reflect on all the experiences and impressions.

My conclusion: Carinthia is a top destination for MICE. Easy access by train or plane (at the junction of Austria<\/mark><\/strong>, Italy<\/mark><\/strong>, and Slovenia<\/mark><\/strong>), great hotels, fantastic venues, excellent local cuisine, a wide variety of team-building opportunities, and a strong focus on sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
